(Rule R307-202-4) Prohibits open burning at sites used for disposal of community trash, garbage and other wastes.

Agricultural Burn Permit - $20.00 for 2 calendar years

Open Burn Permit - $10.00 for a 30 day period (yard waste, tree trimmings or tree trunks)

Recreational Burn Permit - $10.00 for a 1 day period (only for cooking fires and requires an inspecition of fire pit, portable fire pit or chiminea). Must call dispatch to see if the clearing index is above 500. Any complaints from neighbors, then the fire must be extinguished.

Open Burn Window

Permits may be issued for attainment areas between April 1st and May 31st, between September 15th and October 31st when the clearing index is above 500; and between November 1st and March 31st when the clearing index is above 250.

For nonattainment and maintenance areas between April 1st and May 31st and between September 15th and October 31st when the clearing index is above 500.

If you are in the unincorporated county (outside city limits) you need to submit an application for a Utah Forestry Fire and State Lands burn permit Between the dates of June 1st to Oct 31st.

Open Burn Not Allowed

This county or city does not allow any fires at this time due to the high fire risk.

No Open Burning Allowed

This county or city does not allow any open burning of clippings, bushes, plants, and prunings from trees incident to property clean up activities.

In accordance with Utah State Law-Burning Not Permitted- oil, demolition or construction debris, rubbish, garbage, tires, combustible or flammable solid, liquid or gaseous waste and motor vehicle bodies. R307-202-5

Open Burn Not Allowed

Open burning season has been delayed until further notice due to the Fire Restriction Order issued by the State Forester on July 17th 2016.

Tooele City Ordinance 3-1-29 prohibits open burning year round. Only recreational and cooking fires are allowed.

Utah State Law 65A-8-211 requires a permit issued by the State Forester or delegate for all open burning from June 1st to October 31st. During this time period many things are considered before a permit will be issued including but not limited to; current fire restrictions, weather, drought condition, fuel moisture, available fire response resources and whether or not the burning operation is time sensitive. There are specific exemptions that do apply. For more information or with help applying for a permit call County Fire Warden, .
Permit requests will be processed Monday-Thursday during normal business hours and may require an on site inspection. Pre-planning is required if the burn is intended to take place Friday-Sunday or holidays, no exceptions.
No permit will be issued when
- The Local Fire Weather Forecasts indicate any single event or combination of winds greater than 15 mph, temperature greater 90 degrees or relative humidity less than 10%
- Fire Weather Watch or Red Flag Warning has been issued for the day of the burning.
- The Clearing Index is below 500ft on the day of the burning.
- When a Fire Restriction Order issued by the State Forester is in place.
- Large fire(s) are occuring in the geographical area.
- Variances for time sensitive agricultural operation will be considered.
Once the permit is submitted, it will be reviewed and approved or denied in the most timely manner possible.
