Woodburn Program

The residential WoodBurn control program is a program that uses a Green, Yellow, and Red color advisory format for the Wasatch Front Area, to control wood smoke emission between Nov. 1 and March 1, each year, in Utah.

The GREEN condition means coal and wood burning stoves and/or fireplaces may be used, but please use them in a proper manner to reduce their air pollution emissions.

The YELLOW condition means that people should eliminate wood and coal burning if possible. Please try to drive less by combining trips or using mass transit.

The RED condition means the use of coal and wood burning stoves is prohibited unless they emit no smoke. We also request that people drive less by combining trips or using mass transit. Industry also is advised to minimize the release of air pollution.
